PUBSIC 2025: Public Innovation for Societal Transformation

Call for Papers

We invite you to participate in the 7th PUBSIC Conference to be held at the Utrecht University School of Governance. The university, city, and region are an outstanding venue for this conference: easy to reach and set in a beautiful medieval city.

We would welcome in particular paper submissions on the following themes, though other papers relevant to the general theme of public innovation are also welcome:

    – Innovation for migration policies
    – Innovation for an equitable society
  • Public innovation for sustainability transformation
    – PSI for sustainable and resilient public services
    – Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and public services
    – Linking innovation and the sustainability transformation
  • Public innovation for digital transformation
    – Impacts of digital technology and AI on public innovation
    – Ethics of digital innovation in the public sector
    – Governance of digital public sector innovation
  • Papers on the connections between these transformations
    – Innovation for the ‘twin transition’
    – Innovation for an inclusive sustainability transformation
  • Other papers on PSI
    – Governance, management, and contingencies of PSI
    – Contribution of the non-profit and third sector to public innovation
    – Collaboration and open innovation
    – Human resources issues and perspectives on PSI
    – Political dimensions of innovation in public policy
    – The ‘dark side’ of PSI
    – The governance of risk in PSI

Papers can be empirical, conceptual/theoretical or critical in nature. Systematic literature reviews are welcome – if they advance theory and/or knowledge rather than simply describe it. Submissions are welcome from both experienced and new/doctoral researchers.

  • Early bird registration deadline: 30 November 2024
  • Deadline for late registration: 20 December 2024
  • Deadline for final paper submission: 15 January 2025
